Profile

We provide strategic advice and practical legal solutions to Victorian state government and its statutory authorities.  Our clients face a wide range of legal issues and are looking for legal advice and solutions that offer meaningful outcomes and effective risk management, given their unique government context.

Our unique government expertise, commercial know-how and shared values mean we know and understand Government law.

We help clients:

  •         get to the core of and clarify their issues;
  •         with definitive answers and workable solutions;
  •         make the most appropriate legal decisions;
  •         get the most out of their legal services.

VGSO offers solicitors an excellent opportunity to work across a diverse range of challenging and thought-provoking advice and litigation matters including merits and judicial reviews in Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Supreme Court and High Court; coronial inquests; prosecutions in the Magistrate’s Court; and exclusive advice on constitutional law and Charter of Human Rights issues.  You will be constantly challenged and called upon to use the full range of your legal abilities, negotiation skills and litigation strategy.  Many of the matters in which we advise and represent government are high-profile and attract public attention and comment.
